What makes us different?
We are a kindergarten to grade five school. Out graduates will attend HD Stafford Middle School and then go on to Langley Secondary School. We also have a Strong Start program for children not yet of school age that is open from 1:00 to 4:00 every day. Parents attend with their child.
Douglas Park is a Community school which means...
We have a daycare and Boys' and Grils' Club on site and we work with various members of the community to enrich the learning of our students and also to make our facilities available to the community.
We also work on a different calendar than the rest of the district because we get a week off in November and a week off in May but we add those two weeks so that we come to school in July. This gives the students more regular breaks during the school year and this has proven to help the students with their learning.
We dismiss early on Wednesdays to allow our grade 3 - 5 students to join in EXPLORATIONS. We've added a few minutes to the other days of the week and then most Wednesdays, students can explore activities. Students can sign up for a variety of activities that aren't usually covered in the regular school curriculum. This allows the volunteers to explore an area of interest along with the students. Volunteers teach our students a large array of things: ice skating, photography, board games, art, cooking, gardening, dancing, karate, beading, singing, cribbage....we are really only limited to the interests of our volunteers. Please see the explorations for more information.
